It’s not in the US or Colombia: The surprising country where the world’s best coffee shop in 2025 is located
The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops has released the 2025 list, and the top shop, might not be found in a country you expect.

The country home to the best coffee shop in the world, is not located in a country famous for the production of the beloved drink. The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops, the organization that names the winner and drafts the list, released the 2025 version earlier this month in Spain’s capital, Madrid.
The top spot belongs to Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters found in Sydney, Australia.
The coffee shop’s flagship store is found in Sydney’s Chippendale neighborhood, and of the many locations operated by Toby’s is the location to secure the coveted award, just last week. For those able to make the visit, they will be able to take a look "behind-the-scenes look into [Toby’s] roastery, and of course, enjoy the coffee drink of their choice."
How is the list decided?
The winning shop is selected through a voting process that considers the opinion of the public as well as a group of experts. First, coffee shops can nominate themselves and the organization allows the public and a group of experts to vote on which they think are best, with the votes of the former weighted less than that of the latter.
The origin of Toby’s Estate
Toby’s Estate began operating in 1997, founded by “coffee-loving lawyer Toby Smith.” “Toby lived amongst the coffee-producing communities, experiencing first-hand the lifelong dedication and hard manual labour that went into growing their exquisite beans,” reads the ‘About Us’ section of the company’s website.
