It’s official: President Biden is dropping out of the presidential race after a disastrous debate performance in late June. The President and his team attempted to weather the media firestorm created after the debate. Nevertheless, the pressure from donors and high-level party officials was the final nail in the coffin for his 2024 campaign.

Biden has now revealed he will endorse Vice-President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for the upcoming presidential race.

The White House took nearly a month to make a decision, and the campaign was unable to convince party leaders, donors, and voters that he was up to the task of defeating Donald Trump in November.

After the debate, donors, particularly in swing states, grew worried about President Biden’s ability to do the job for another four years. Though he hosted rallies and gave interviews, his performance at those events did not rise to the level that concerns were dissuaded, which lost him support among prominent names in the party.

Many Democratic voters are wondering how the party has arrived at this point. Party leaders have argued that the voters could have voted for other candidates in the primary. However, no real challengers confronted President Biden over fears that they would face retaliation from the party for running against an incumbent. In other words, it is hard to say that there was a serious Democratic primary where the voice of the party members was heard. Instead, many presidential hopefuls and rising stars within the party saw waiting until 2028 as a safer bet, leaving President Biden as the only viable candidate to secure the party’s nomination.

“It’s been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.
