José Elías, entrepreneur: “The capacity to pitch in during difficult times is the true reflection of our society”
The businessman argues that citizen involvement and cooperation are essential in difficult contexts.
Businessman José Elías has once again shared a message on the social media platform X, reflecting on the current social climate and growing sense of division in Spain. In his view, the problem does not lie with ordinary people, but with those who have a vested interest in keeping the public distracted and constantly at odds with one another.
As he put it in his post: “The problem in this country isn’t us. It’s that there are people who are very interested in keeping us distracted and divided all the time.”
In his message, Elías draws a distinction between two separate realities: on one hand, the political sphere; on the other, real society, made up of people who stay involved and work hard in their everyday lives. According to him, that divide helps explain some of the disconnect he sees today.
He also criticizes attempts to promote the idea that the enemy is among us, pointing to examples such as tensions between Catalans and people from Madrid, men and women, or younger and older generations. He believes this kind of messaging is designed to create division, even though, in his opinion, the reality on the ground looks very different.
Adaptability and resilience
The businessman says that when he takes part in international meetings, he feels proud to come from this country, highlighting the adaptability and resilience of Spanish society. In that regard, he added: “We have tremendous mental flexibility. We know how to take hits and adapt to whatever comes next. And when things truly get tough, we organize ourselves.”
He also emphasizes that this ability to come together in difficult moments is, in his view, one of society’s greatest strengths: “That willingness to pull together in hard times is a snapshot of our society.”
To conclude, he insists that Spain is made up of exceptional people and that it is not worth getting drawn into debates whose only purpose is to distract and divide the public.
