What did Stephen Colbert say about Kate Middleton? Katespiracy affair rumours light up Internet

A mention on a late-night talk show was exactly the thing to get the ‘Katespiracy’ affair rumours going again.

Royal drama and conspiracy theories explained

A mention on a late-night TV show is exactly the spoon needed to stir the pot of rumours that have been lighting up the internet regarding the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Stephen Colbert did not hold back as he brought up the Katespiracy’, the internet-invented term for the topic of Kate Middleton’s recent lack of public eye appearances.

Unsubstantiated rumours that Prince William has been having an affair with Rose Hanbury have been flooding social networks in recent days and weeks, and Colbert bringing the topic up once again proved that it is indeed very much of public interest.

What did Stephen Colbert say about Kate Middleton?

“The Kingdom has been all a flutter about the seeming disappearance of Kate Middleton,” Colbert said. “Well now, internet sleuths are guessing that Kate’s absence may be related to her husband, and the future King of England, William, having an affair.”

“According to tabloids back then, when Kate supposedly confronted him about it, he laughed it off, saying there was nothing to it,” he added, “Always a good response when you’re wife accuses you of cheating.”

British publication The Telegraph also added fuel to the fire after they published an article (above) entitled “Lady Rose Hanbury: Who is the Marchioness of Cholmondeley?”

The timing of the article on the Marchioness of Cholmedely, a 39-year-old former model, was all social media users needed to question why news about Hanbury was deemed relevant - exactly at the same time as Kate’s absence from the public eye was going on.

Rumours about an alleged affair are nothing new, however, as the initial story dates back to 2019, when British tabloid The Sun published an article speculating on a rumoured fallout between Kate and Hanbury, a regular figure at royal events. The article no longer exists and no other publications mentioned the supposed event, something which only stoked the fire even more.
