A new fire ignited on Thursday afternoon near West Hills and Calabasas. Named the Kenneth Fire, it prompted immediate evacuation orders for residents as the blaze rapidly advanced toward nearby homes. However, after just a few hours, it appears that firefighters, through aerial equipment, were able to avoid any further spread of the fire that was moving towards homes. Emergency officials will likely continue to update evacuation orders and warnings as they become more confident that the threat has been diminished.

The Kenneth Fire is being investigated as an arson event, and one person has been detained in connection with the fire.

Cal Fire has worked quickly to use their aerial teams to dump water on the blaze to slow its spread. Though the area is facing high winds, these efforts have shown to be successful for the time being. According to the most recent status update provided by Cal Fire, the Kenneth Fire has burned 960 acres in the West Hills area. The previous update had put that number at 50, a fact that demonstrates the scale at which this fire grew over just a few hours.
