Last chance to claim $500 from Walmart

Some Walmart customers may be eligible for a portion of the $45 million dollar settlement resulting from a class-action lawsuit against the world’s largest retailer. According to official documents, the company overcharged customers who bought weighted goods, which are products marked with unit prices for subsequent sale.

Who can request payment?

Any person who has purchased a weighted product or food in any of the Walmart stores in the United States and Puerto Rico, between October 19, 2018 and January 19, 2024, is eligible for payment compensation. Weighted products include everything from beef, chicken, pork, turkey and seafood to oranges, tangerines and grapefruits weighed in bulk plastic or mesh bags. On the settlement’s official site, you can consult the complete list of products.

How to request payment?

Customers who purchased any weighted product can submit the Important Documents Claim Form on the website set up for the agreement. The company makes special mention that, unless the client excludes himself from the agreement, he will automatically be part of it; but, if you do not claim it, you will not receive any payment and you will give up the right to sue the company for the same or similar matter.

To opt out of the agreement, you can submit an “opt-out request.” Through this, you are excluded from payment, but you are allowed to retain your right to sue the company for legal claims similar to or already resolved in this agreement.

Those who wish to claim part of the multi-million-dollar compensation will have to present their respective purchase receipts. With them, they will be able to claim up to 2% of the total cost of the product. The maximum you can receive is $500 per customer.

If the purchase receipt is not available, customers may still qualify for a payment of between $10 and $25, depending on what they purchased. Those who purchased of 1 to 50 weighted products, are eligible for $10 dollars. Those who purchased 51 to 75 products will receive $15 dollars and those who purchased 76 to 100 products, you can receive up to $20. Customers who purchased 101 or more are eligible for a payment of $25. The deadline to file the claim is this June 5th.
