Snack lovers, take note: a popular salty treat is being recalled. Frito-Lay has issued a limited recall of 6,344 bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips due to undeclared milk, a potential allergen that could trigger serious or life-threatening allergic reactions in some individuals. Here’s what you need to know about this recall, how it might affect you, and what steps to take if you have a bag of the affected chips.

What caused the latest Lay’s recall?

On Monday, Frito-Lay announced the recall after being alerted by a consumer about the presence of milk in certain batches of their 13-ounce bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips. The recall affects only the Classic Potato Chips, with no other Lay’s flavors, sizes, or variety packs impacted.

While no allergic reactions have been reported as of December 18, the company and the FDA issued the recall as a precaution. According to the alert, individuals with a milk allergy or severe sensitivity are at risk of experiencing serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, if they consume the chips.

What to look for

The recalled chips can be identified by the following details:

  • Product Name: Lay’s Classic Potato Chips
  • Bag Size: 13 ounces
  • Guaranteed Fresh Date: February 11, 2025
  • Manufacturing Codes: 6462307xx or 6463307xx
  • UPC: 28400 31041

In which states were the affected Lay’s chips sold?

The recalled chips were distributed in Oregon and Washington through retail stores and e-commerce platforms. Consumers may have purchased these products as early as November 3, 2024.

If you’re outside these states, it is reported that no other regions or Lay’s products are included in this recall.

What should I do if I have the recalled chips?

If you have a bag of the affected Lay’s Classic Potato Chips:

  1. Do not consume: anyone with a milk allergy or sensitivity should avoid eating these chips.
  2. Dispose of them: discard the bag immediately to prevent accidental consumption.
  3. Contact Frito-Lay: for questions or concerns, reach out to Frito-Lay Consumer Relations at 1-800-352-4477 (Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT).

Given how serious a milk allergy can be, be mindful and take the appropriate measures.
