Update:

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has issued a curfew due to ongoing unrest and protests in the downtown area. For several days, demonstrators have been speaking out against indiscriminate raids carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and against violations of the rights of undocumented immigrants, such as the lack of due process.

In a press conference, Mayor Bass stated she would consult with law enforcement authorities regarding the duration of the curfew but noted it would likely remain in effect for several days.

Los Angeles curfew hours

For now, the curfew will be in effect from 8:00 p.m. PT on Tuesday until 6:00 a.m. PT on Wednesday, June 11. The curfew applies to a one-square-mile area in downtown Los Angeles.

LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell warned that anyone not considered exempt who is found within the designated curfew area will be subject to arrest. According to the chief, the curfew is a necessary measure to protect lives and safeguard property.

Who is exempt from the Los Angeles curfew

McDonnell clarified that the following individuals are exempt from the downtown Los Angeles curfew: residents within the designated area, unhoused individuals, accredited members of the media, and public safety and emergency personnel.

Mayor Karen Bass said the curfew was deemed necessary after 23 businesses were looted or vandalized on Monday night.
