Meet Billy, the one-eyed goose that became a local celebrity by going door to door asking for food
Billy the goose, a beloved Baton Rouge mascot known for begging warm bread, died after an alligator attack, leaving his community heartbroken.

A community in Louisiana is mourning the loss of a beloved neighbor. Billy, a goose, won hearts with his talkative nature and good looks. He first appeared nearly a decade ago, with neighbors recalling how he would go door to door asking for snacks. Geese are known for their hearty appetites, and Billy was no exception.
A Baton Rouge neighborhood favorite resident
Speaking with CBS News, one neighbor, Rachel Jackson, said that although no one knew exactly how Billy ended up in their Baton Rouge neighborhood, he quickly became a local icon.
“He was our mascot. I mean, everybody here knew Billy. We don’t know where he came from,” said Jackson.
Other neighbors said that his daily routine was similar to trick or treating on Halloween, except Billy’s favorite treat wasn’t candy, but bread that had been warmed up in the microwave.
Sadly, after eight years of brightening the days of those who visited, Billy was attacked by an alligator. Though he was taken to the vet in hopes of saving him, veterinarians recommended euthanizing him due to the severity of his injuries.
