More bad news regarding eggs: these are the egg beaters and substitutes products recalled because they may include bleach

If you’ve picked up Egg Beaters or Bob Evans liquid eggs recently, check your fridge – they might come with an unwelcome ingredient: bleach.

Cargill Kitchen Solutions has recalled more than 212,000 pounds of liquid egg products after a potential contamination with sodium hypochlorite, a common bleaching agent found in cleaning solutions. These eggs weren’t scrambled with chemicals on purpose, but a cleaning mix used during production may have accidentally made its way into a batch processed on March 12 and 13.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said it received a tip about the contamination. While there have been no reported illnesses or injuries, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is urging people not to take the risk. “Don’t eat these,” the agency warned. “Throw them away or return them to where you bought them.”

Which products are affected?

Here’s what to look out for:

• Egg Beaters Cage-free Original Liquid Egg Substitute, 32 oz carton, use by AUG 09 2025
• Egg Beaters Cage-free Original Frozen Egg Substitute and Egg Beaters No Enjauladas Original Sustituto de Huevo Congelado, 32 oz cartons, use by MAR 07 2026
• Bob Evans Better’n Eggs Made with Real Egg Whites, 32 oz carton, use by AUG 10 2025

All of these products have the establishment number ‘G1804′ stamped on the carton.

Where were these products sent?

Cargill said the affected batches were shipped to food service customers (think: restaurants, schools, cafeterias) in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, and Texas. However, the USDA isn’t ruling out wider distribution across the U.S.
