Aside from those who have made public statements, it has been reported that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries have all spoken to Biden to persuade him to step down.

Reasons they are calling on Biden to step down

Many Democrats were alarmed by Biden’s performance in the most recent debate, which they felt was lackluster and raised doubts about his ability to effectively campaign against a formidable Republican opponent like Trump. Some fear that his signs of age could be a liability in a high-stakes election.

Influential donors and business figures have expressed their concerns, with some threatening to withhold financial support if Biden remains the nominee.

Several Democrats have emphasised the need for a younger, more dynamic candidate who can energise the base and present a strong challenge to Trump. Figures like Adam Schiff have called for Biden to “pass the torch” to the next generation of Democratic leaders.
