Donald Trump was scheduled to sit down for a conversation with Elon Musk on X at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m PT on Monday, Aug. 12. The event was to be streamed live on X Spaces, but was unable to begin on time.
The interview was posted on Trump’s account, marking his return to the platform since leaving it in 2021.

The event ran into technical difficulties, with users unable to access the live stream. The site showed that the page was “not available” when they tried to listen to the event, although it appeared that over 115,000 people were able to join.
Musk posted an explanation for the delay, saying “there appears to be a massive DDOS attack on X.” He said they are currently “working on shutting it down.”

In a worst case scenario, Musk said they “will proceed with a smaller number of live listeners and post the conversation later.” This is what they eventually did, promising to make the unedited interview available to the public immediately after the event ends.
Shortly before the event was to begin, Musk clarified that he was holding a conversation with the former president and not interviewing him.
“Nobody is quite themselves in an interview, so it’s hard to understand what they’re really like,” he said.
