The first Friday of February is National Wear Red Day, which falls on 6 February this year. The day is a chance for people do their part to raise awareness of the No. 1 killer of women, cardiovascular disease.
The American Heart Association urges everyone to “raise your voice, wear red and encourage others to do the same.” Here’s how you can do your part.
Break out your red apparel and make a difference
The AHA provides three simple ways that you can help to remind people that “making an impact doesn’t just feel good, it’s fun!”
“Wear red to spark the conversation”
The easiest way to help raise awareness on National Wear Red Day, as the name says, is to don some red apparel. And then strike up a conversation with co-workers, family, friends, and neighbors.
Don’t have any red in your closet, or looking to update your wardrobe? No worries, you can get yours and help fuel research, advocacy, and community health education programs at the same time by visiting ShopHeart.org to get your ‘Go Red’ merch including “the iconic Red Dress pin to hats, ties, socks, scarves” as well as CPR Anytime kits.
“Get Social! Spread the RED”
You can help amplify the conversation about the number one killer of women and awareness of National Wear Red Day by using the power of social media.
And you can start doing so anytime of the year, you don’t just need to wait for the first Friday of February to roll around each year. Also, you should know that American Heart Month starts on 1 February, so make a month it!
Use the hashtags #WearRedDay, #WearRedandGive, and #HeartMonth on posts of yourself, or together with friends and family.
“Give to protect every woman’s heart”
As mentioned, you can help the AHA’s mission by buying “Go Red” merch, or you can contribute directly to the organization. You can also start your own donation page to help the cause by going to WearRedDay.org and select “Start Your Own Fundraiser,” then “Join”.
And remember, “every dollar makes a difference in the fight against heart disease and stroke.”
