New York New Year’s Eve countdown: starting time, TV, and how to stream and watch online
A whole host of big names and star performers will be in New York tonight to ring in 2023 with the iconic Times Square ball drop.

Across the country New Year’s Eve celebrations will be in full swing later tonight, ringing in 2023. But there are few parties that can match the scale and the celebrity of the famous Times Square ball drop, in New York City.
On the roof of the One Times Square building in the heart of New York, the plunging ball will mark out the final minute of 2022 and bring in the New Year with fireworks.
The official celebration begins at 6:00pm local time and a whole host of performances from big stars will perform live throughout the evening. If you can’t make it to Time Square for the event, fear not; you can watch the whole thing from the comfort of your living room.
A livestream of the event will be available to watch at TimesSquareNYC.org, NewYearsEve.nyc, LiveStream.com/2022 and TimesSquareBall.net.
There will also be a mammoth 18-hour broadcast on VYNE showing the whole thing, with the option to choose from a variety of different camera angles
Who is performing at New York’s New Year’s Eve countdown?
The New York extravaganza will be hosted, once again by Mean Girls star Jonathan Bennett, with a packed schedule of performers.
Featured performances will include KT Tunstall, LL Cool J, Chlöe and Journey, There will also be a Planet Fitness Dance Routine from Liza Koshy and the USO Show Troupe. But the showpiece event of the evening will be the iconic ball drop countdown to ring in the New Year, beginning at 11:59pm ET.
If you fancy a TV alternative, ABC are back with an NYE institution. Ryan Seacrest returns to Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, alongside co-hosts Liza Koshy and Jessie James Decker.
Performances will be from Duran Duran, j-hope, Jax, New Edition. Ciara, Fitz & The Tantrums, Maddie & Tae, Shaggy, Ben Platt, Aly & AJ, Halle Bailey, Tomorrow x Together, Bailey Zimmerman, Lauren Spencer Smith, Wiz Khalifa, Finneas, Armani White, Betty Who, Dove Cameron and Nicky Youre.
The televised special begins at 8:00pm ET.
