Rise Up, Sing Out: A concert for the First Amendment | Watch party locations and information on June 14

Donald Trump turns 80 on June 14, and he’s marking the day with a UFC event on the White House lawn, which, next to the demolition project of the East Wing, is making the people’s house look like a junkyard. So, as hard-working citizens around the country struggle to pay basic bills and medical costs, the president is splashing out on a UFC event and a reconstruction of the East Wing of the White House that is completely unnecessary.

What is the alternative event on June 14?

In response, activists across the U.S. are planning something very different. Watch parties are being organized all over the country on June 14 to celebrate the First Amendment with a concert in New York City called “Rise up Sing Out.”

Launched by the Committee for the First Amendment, the event will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET in New York with performances and speeches by Rufus Wainwright, Bette Midler, Patti Smith, Julia Roberts, Jane Fonda and more.

According to the official Rise Up and Sing Out website, the goal is to celebrate the freedoms guaranteed by our First Amendment.

The event organized by the Committee for the First Amendment is also supported by the No Kings group that started the Trump protests in 2025 and have successfully organized three such events, with the biggest being in March of this year.

Recent attacks on Late Night show hosts, with the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s show and the dismantling of CBS and ‘60 Minutes’ are just two examples of how the government is trying to surpress free speech in the U.S.

Where and how can I join the No Kings protests?

Information about how to participate can be found here: Watch party information.

From Los Angeles to Louisville, over 200 watch parties are planned all over the U.S. If you can’t attend a watch party or the event itself in New York, you can get information on how to watch here.

America fought off a monarchy almost 250 years ago – and on June 14, many will be out in force to say they don’t want one creeping back.
