Road trip across America in an EV? This couple has driven 25,000 miles all over the U.S.: “A lot easier than people expect”
One of the major concerns about long-distance travel with an electric vehicle is that you’ll run out of charge. This couple is proving that it’s not a problem.

The automotive industry is committed to electrification in the long term; however, American consumers are still hesitant. The biggest concerns they have besides the high upfront cost deal with charging and limited battery life.
While just a few years ago, heading out onto the open highway for the ‘Great American Road Trip’ in an electric vehicle would have required serious planning to make sure that you would be able to find a charging station before the juice in the battery ran out, today it’s a different story. Thanks to a steady rollout of charging infrastructure there are now over 80,000 stations from coast to coast.
Road tripping all The Lower 48 in an EV
Taylor and Zervan are a full-time travel couple from California and Berlin whose stated goal is to “capture beautiful places around the world so others are inspired to see these places for themselves.” Their latest adventure began in early 2025 when they hit the road planning to visit all of The Lower 48 states in an electric vehicle.
A year and a half later, in their Volkswagen ID named Sun Buzz, the nomads have now been to 30 states as of their latest post on Instagram. In an earlier installment of their travel journal documenting “the real experience of electric van life” Taylor and Zervan said that “they’re way less complicate than people think.”
By mid-March, they had traveled 25,000 miles through 25 states and “so far there hasn’t been a destination we couldn’t reach,” they said. “Half the time those charging stops end up being the break you wanted anyway.” Typically, it just takes between 20 and 30 minutes they noted.
The travel couple explained that there are plenty of fast chargers along major highways and even when they are in remote areas like national parks, they can find one in a nearby town or in the park itself. Furthermore, the GPS in Sun Buzz automatically plans the charging stops, telling them where to stop and how long it will take to top up their battery.
So for those wondering if they can go road tripping the U.S. in an EV, Taylor and Zervan say with certainty that it is “totally possible.”
