Update:

Scott Adams, the creator of the popular satirical comic strip Dilbert, has died at the age of 68, it has been confirmed.

“I gave it everything I had”

In a live stream on Tuesday, Adams’ former wife, Shelly Miles, announced his death from metastatic prostate cancer. Miles read a statement written by Adams earlier this month, which said: “Things did not go well for me […]. My body failed before my brain.”

In his statement, Adams also said: “I had an amazing life. I gave it everything I had.”

“I’m always in pain”

Adams had revealed his prostate cancer diagnosis in May 2025. Speaking on his podcast Real Coffee with Scott Adams, he said: “Every day is a nightmare and evening is even worse.

I’m in pain and I’m always in pain, and the pain moves around to different parts of my body. I’ve been using a walker to walk for months now.”

On Monday, Miles had told TMZ that Adams was in hospice care and only had days to live.

What was ‘Dilbert’ about?

Adams is best known as the cartoonist behind Dilbert, a comic strip that that focuses on the absurdities and frustrations of corporate life.

It centers around its titular main character, a socially awkward engineer who works in a large, dysfunctional corporation.

Having debuted in 1989, Dilbert went on to appear in newspapers worldwide, with an estimated 2,000 publications carrying the comic strip by the mid-2010s.

However, Adams’ creation was dropped by many newspapers in early 2023, after a racist YouTube diatribe by the New York native.

As reported by Reuters at the time, Adams labelled Black people a “hate group” and urged white Americans to “get the hell away from Black people.”

Adams was married to Miles from 2006 to 2014, and was stepfather to her two children, Savannah and Justin. In 2018, he revealed that Justin had died of a fentanyl overdose at the age of 18.

Adams later tied the knot with Kristina Basham in 2020, but announced their split in 2022.
