Sento Segarra, pharmacist and expert in stress management: “The worst drink for your liver isn’t sugary soda”
“The worst drink” for your liver is not beer, nor wine. It’s something much more dangerous.
Health is essential, and there is no shortage of advice on how to feel better in every aspect of life. One of the most prominent wellness voices on social media is Sento Segarra, a pharmacist who, in this case, explains which drink is the worst for our liver and what we should bear in mind when consuming it.
Segarra stresses that “it’s not sugary drinks, and it’s not even beer or wine. It’s something far more dangerous. Every time you consume it, your liver goes into emergency mode. It has to break down a highly toxic byproduct called acetaldehyde. The problem is that acetaldehyde kills liver cells, causes inflammation, and blocks the liver’s ability to regenerate.”
The pharmacist also warns that with this type of drink, “two doses a day are enough to overload your liver, day after day, without you even realising it. And it doesn’t matter if it’s only on weekends; your liver doesn’t distinguish between holidays.”
So what is the worst drink for your liver? According to Segarra, it is hard liquor. These are distilled beverages with a high alcohol content, generally 40 per cent alcohol by volume or more. They are distinguished from other alcoholic drinks by their distillation process and their concentration of alcohol.
