The United States has various economic assistance initiatives for low-income people, among them the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, popularly known as SNAP coupons.

Through SNAP, the federal government provides financial assistance by issuing food stamps on a monthly basis to those who struggle to put food on their tables. The amount of the coupons is deposited to an electronic benefit transfer debit card that is accepted in various stores, markets on wheels, and selected supermarkets.

SNAP coupon amounts for December

Every year, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) increases monthly SNAP coupon payments thanks to the cost of living adjustment (COLA). The COLA increases the amount of payments at the same rate as current inflation, so that the beneficiaries do not see a decrease in their purchasing power when inflation is high. This is also what happens with Social Security payments.

According to the USDA, the increase in the COLA for 2024 is 3.2%, the same that came into effect on Oct. 1. With this, the maximum amount that will be received by an individual will increase from $281 to $291. That said, this is the table with the maximum benefit that can be received in December, according to the number of members of a household:

  • 1 member: $291
  • 2 members: $535
  • 3 members: $766
  • 4 members: $973
  • 5 members: $1,155
  • 6 members: $1,386
  • 7 members: $1,532
  • 8 members: $1.1751
  • Each additional member: +$219
