Snow storm in the USA this weekend: affected states
A new severe winter storm will affect several parts of the USA this weekend. Know the states that will be affected.
Last week, a major winter storm hit several states nationwide, leading to snow accumulations of up to 18 inches in certain cities, according to the National Snowfall Analysis provided by the National Weather Service (NWS).
While some parts of the country are still recovering from the aftermath of the previous storm, another winter storm is expected to hit soon. According to the NWS Weather Prediction Center, the upcoming storm will bring heavy snowfall and blizzards to many states from Thursday to Saturday. We’ll explain which states will be affected by this storm.
Friday weather forecast: affected states
According to the latest weather report, by Friday, snow is expected to fall in many parts of the Midwest, including Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Across the Midwest, the threat of tornadoes is elevated as the region is under a strong wind advisory.
Additionally, parts of Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nevada, South Dakota, and Wyoming are all under a Blizzard warning, some of which will not be lifted until Saturday.
Rain will also fall across the Mid-Atlantic, southern New England, and in the area spanning the Lower Mississippi Valley into the Tennesse Valley, where storms have been occurring all week. These rainstorms come on top of others, and although less rainfall is expected, the NWS warns that “saturated ground conditions as well as higher than normal stream/river levels due to snowmelt could lead to the risk of flooding, particularly for urban areas.”
By Friday, cold temperatures that have already been recorded in the Northern Plaines will be felt across the Central Pl as well. “Record low temperatures in the -20s, -30s, and even as low as -40 are forecast for the Northern Plains Saturday morning,” reports the NWS.
Saturday weather forecast: affected states
The Mississippi Valley will begin to feel the impact of Arctic air as the jetstream pushes the air across the region. As the cold air continues to move across the country, the Midwest and the Southern Plains will get a taste by Sunday.
A storm is expected to hit the Northeast on early Saturday morning, bringing with it snow and strong winds. Northern New England is likely to be hit the hardest, which could result in power outages. At the same time, snowfall is expected to continue around the Great Lakes. Meanwhile, the central United States will witness a drop in temperatures over the weekend and into next week.
