Bad weather continues to batter the United States just days before the arrival of spring.

The National Weather Service has placed northeastern parts of the country under alert due to a strong snow storm that will hit mainly the states of New York and New Jersey. The alert will last until Wednesday, March 15.

New York and New Jersey are expecting up to a foot of snow. However, due to the presence of high winds, snow drifts could reach up to three feet.

“The most likely area of heavy snowfall is in parts of western and northern New England through upstate and central New York,” says a report from The Weather Channel.

The regions of New Jersey and New York are the most affected, but 12 more states are under alert: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, Ohio, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Vermont.

The storm is expected to come to an end on Wednesday. However, authorities warn that the forecast may still change depending on how the storm develops.

Due to bad weather, power outages are expected in much of the northeast. Authorities are asking people to avoid taking road trips, unless they are absolutely necessary.
