Update:

In the U.S., millions of Social Security beneficiaries are scheduled to receive their latest monthly money next week, as the Social Security Administration (SSA) begins July 2026’s three-Wednesdays payment cycle.

Who receives Social Security on Wednesday, July 8?

Of the 71.2 million Social Security recipients in the U.S., many are paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in each month, depending on their date of birth.

July 8 is this month’s second Wednesday, so Social Security benefits are due to go out to beneficiaries born from the first to the 10th of any month.

July 2026’s full three-Wednesdays schedule is:

  • Born on 1st-10th of any month: Wednesday, July 8
  • Born on 11th-20th of any month: Wednesday, July 15
  • Born on 21st-31st of any month: Wednesday, July 22

NB: If you claim Social Security based on someone else’s employment history, the SSA refers to the other person’s birthday.

What other Social Security payment dates are there in July?

  • July 2: Social Security paid to certain long-term beneficiaries

People who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 were paid their July benefits on Thursday 2, no matter their birthday.

  • July 2: Social Security paid to beneficiaries also on SSI

Thursday was also this month’s Social Security distribution date for recipients who combine the program with Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a benefit for certain low-income, low-resource individuals. SSI payments, meanwhile, were scheduled to be issued on Wednesday, July 1.

Social Security is typically sent out to the above long-term and twin recipients on the third of the month, but payment was brought forward because July 3 was a federal holiday.

How much are monthly Social Security benefits?

  • Retirement: $2,028.00
  • Disability: $1,493.25
  • Survivor: $1,626.59

(Average benefit, according to stats published by the SSA.)

How does the Social Security Admin pay out benefits?

  • Direct deposit

Social Security recipients can update their banking information using the SSA’s online my Social Security tool.

  • Direct Express

Benefits can be loaded onto the Direct Express Card, a debit card for federal payments. Sign up for Direct Express at 1-800-333-1795 or 1-800-772-1213, or at a Social Security office.
