Update:

More than seven million people are tomorrow due to get a benefits payment from the U.S.’s Social Security Administration (SSA).

Who gets paid by the Social Security Admin tomorrow, Wednesday, July 1?

On July 1, beneficiaries of the Supplemental Security Income scheme (SSI) are scheduled to be sent their monthly money for July 2026.

Who gets SSI benefits?

A benefit with 7.3 million recipients nationwide, SSI is for low-income individuals who are over 65 or have a disability.

Unlike the SSA’s Social Security program - which pays retirement, disability and survivor benefits to 71.2 million people - eligibility for SSI does not depend on claimants’ work history. It is a needs-based scheme.

To find out more about who qualifies for SSI, check out this page on the SSA website.

How much are SSI benefits?

  • Ave. payment: $738.13
  • Max. individual payment: $994
  • Max. couples payment: $1,491
  • Max. essential-person payment: $498

(Monthly amounts, per figures published by the SSA here and here.)

Supplemental state SSI payments

Some SSI recipients can get a supplementary monthly payment from their state. Learn more about the states that offer this additional benefit on the SSA website.

How does the Social Security Admin make benefits payments?

  • Direct deposit

SSI beneficiaries can supply the SSA with their bank-account information by calling 1-800-772-1213 or visiting a Social Security office.

  • Direct Express

Money can be loaded onto the Direct Express Card, a special debit card for federal disbursements. Sign up for Direct Express at 1-800-333-1795 or 1-800-772-1213, or at a Social Security office.
