Social Security is sending out checks today, Monday March 3: Find out if you’re getting one
Some of the U.S.’s more than 70 million Social Security recipients are scheduled to get their latest monthly payment.

Some Social Security recipients in the U.S. are set to get their next check today, Monday, March 3, as the Social Security Administration (SSA) embarks on this month’s schedule of payments.
Who in receives Social Security benefits in the U.S.?
Each month, the SSA distributes Social Security benefits to retired workers, disabled workers and surviving family members of deceased workers.
Americans fund the benefits that they or their relatives receive by paying Social Security taxes on their earnings during their working life.
The SSA also runs a scheme known as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which is aimed at people who have little or no income and are over 65 or have a disability.
SSI differs from regular Social Security benefits as it is needs-based rather than contribution-based. It is not dependent on payment of Social Security taxes.
Who gets their Social Security money today, March 3?
Today, the SSA is scheduled to make retirement, disability and survivors’ payments to beneficiaries who started receiving their monthly checks before May 1997.
In addition, recipients who get both SSI and regular Social Security are due to be paid the latter today (having already been issued the former on Friday, February 28).
When are other Social Security checks paid in March 2025?
Most non-SSI recipients of Social Security payments will have their money distributed on one of three Wednesdays. This is as part of a staggered schedule by which payment dates are decided by the recipient’s date of birth.
In March 2025, the SSA’s three-Wednesdays payment schedule is as follows:
- Weds, Mar. 12: Beneficiaries born on 1st to 10th of month
- Weds, Mar. 19: Beneficiaries born on 11th to 20th of month
- Weds, Mar. 26: Beneficiaries born on 21st to 31st of month
You can check out the SSA’s complete payment schedule for 2025 by visiting the U.S. government agency’s website.

Disabled workers get $1,580 a month on average, the SSA reveals, with the surviving family members of deceased workers receiving an average of $1,546 per month.
Meanwhile, the SSI program is worth an average of $714 a month to eligible Americans, the SSA says.
