In their 2023 study of 62 cognitively healthy older adults, researchers from UC Berkeley, Stanford and Irvine universities in the U.S. found that people with brain changes associated with Alzheimer’s disease performed better on memory function tests the more soundly they slept. Sleeping well could prevent molecular changes by giving the brain time to clear beta-amyloid deposits, one of the causes of the disease.
