The castaways landed in Fiji, and upon meeting their tribes, they were put to the test, this time competing for Survivor essentials: a pot, machete, and flint. Visa, the red tribe, took the prizes back to their new camp, leaving Baka and Coco to try and earn the materials through a penalty challenge that awaited them at their camps.

During the challenge, teams had to create a box out of heavy crates that different members had to drag to a podium. Once all the boxes had been brought, they could begin constructing the cube. Once the cube was constructed, one member of the team had to get on top and slide flint off of a bamboo stick using a hollowed stick. Vesi was able to win by sticking the flint in the bamboo and sliding it across to victory.

Back at Baka and Coco camp, they each undertook a challenge to earn their supplies. Neither team wasted too much time on the activity. Then all three began to build shelter and look for food.

The rest of the episode took viewers through the relationship-building going on back at the camps. At Baka camp, Gabler showed himself to be a bit of a trickster, going around to most of the members of his tribe, telling them if he heard their name in conversation, he would let them know... but what those who have been watching Survivor for decades know, is that alliances must be strong and when they are formed with too many people, often the tribe votes them out.

During a strategy challenge, where each tribe had to send one member, Gabler, walked away with immunity that protects him from elimination for two rounds. Gabler and Dwight both risked their votes during the challenge, which gave each of them a fifty-fifty shot of earning a mystery prize. In addition, to losing the immunity, his risk also lost him his vote in the case that his tribe heads to Tribal Council.

Baka visits the Tribal Council

The second challenge included in this two-hour episode was a puzzle-based exercise. While all teams performed relatively well, it was Baka that came in third. This loss meant that Baka was headed for the Tribal Council, where host Jeff Probst said his famous tagline, “Once the votes are read, the decision is final, a person with the highest number of votes must leave the tribal council area immediately.” Morriah Young, from Philidelphia, who worse rainbow overalls, ended up with the greatest number of votes and was the first castaway to leave the show this season.

Owen also received one vote, likely Morriah’s.
