TAX SEASON 2024

Tax season 2024: Can you change your refund method after filing your taxes?

You must declare how a refund will be received when you send off your tax return, making it impossible to alter it once sent unless it is denied.

Update:
Who is eligible to get a tax refund for around $900 from the IRS?

Once you have filed your tax return with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), changing the refund method is not possible. The refund method you choose on your tax return determines how you receive any refund owed to you.

You have several options for receiving your tax refund, including direct deposit into a bank account, receiving a paper check, or using your refund to purchase US Savings Bonds. You make this choice when you fill out your tax return.

If you discover an error after filing and your return is already accepted, you’ll need to file an amendment (Form 1040-X) to change any mistakes.

Tax season 2024: Can you change your refund method after filing your taxes?

If you’ve already submitted your tax return and want to change the refund method, the only way it can be changed is if it is denied.

This gives you the chance to submit your return again and alter the repayment method. However, once the return is processed, the refund method is locked in.

To check the status of your refund or discuss any changes, you can use the IRS “Where’s My Refund?” tool on their official website or contact the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040. Be prepared to provide your Social Security number, filing status, and the exact refund amount when making inquiries.
