Texas tax filing deadline extension: Who are affected and new deadlines
The IRS has issued an extension for filing taxes in Texas due to the effects of Hurricane Beryl. Here are the new deadlines and affected counties.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced an extension of the deadline for filing and paying taxes in the state of Texas. The measure comes as a relief for taxpayers in 67 counties that were affected by Hurricane Beryl in early July.
New tax deadline for Texas
According to a press release posted on the IRS website, taxpayers in affected counties now have until February 3, 2025 to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.

Who are affected?
The 67 counties that have been given a reprieve by the IRS and can apply for tax relief are the following:
Anderson, Angelina, Aransas, Austin, Bowie, Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson, Calhoun, Cameron, Camp, Cass, Chambers, Cherokee, Colorado, Dewitt, Fayette, Fort Bend, Freestone, Galveston, Goliad, Gregg, Grimes, Hardin, Harris , Harrison, Hidalgo, Houston, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Kenedy, Kleberg, Lavaca, Lee, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Marion, Matagorda, Milam, Montgomery, Morris, Nacogdoches, Newton, Nueces, Orange, Panola, Polk, Refugio , Robertson, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, San Patricio, Shelby, Trinity, Tyler, Upshur, Victoria, Walker, Waller, Washington, Webb, Wharton and Willacy.
If you live in one of the above counties, you do not need to take any steps to request an extension, as it will be done automatically. The government agency reserves the right to add more counties to what is considered a “disaster zone.”

It is worth noting that penalties for failure to make deposits of payroll and excise taxes owed between July 5 and July 22, 2024, will be eliminated, provided that the payments were made before July 22, 2024. For more information, review the IRS statement.
