As the day is one of 11 federally recognized holidays, some restaurants close to give their employees the day off, while a few remain open.

Will supermarkets be open on Thanksgiving?
Unlike other holidays such as Labor Day, Memorial Day or Veterans Day, during which stores remain open, most major supermarkets operate shorter hours or close their establishments on Thanksgiving Day.
Walmart, Target, Sam's Club and Costco, to name a few, have announced that they will close in 2023 for Thanksgiving Day.

Are banks open on Thanksgiving Day?
Because it is a federal holiday, all government offices will be closed. In the case of banks, each financial institution decides whether or not it will close for Thanksgiving Day.
However, most of the largest banks in the United States will remain closed, including Bank of America, Wells Fargo, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Chase, Citibank, U.S. Bank of America. Bank, SunTrust Bank, Capital One, Citizens Bank, Santander Bank and BBVA Compass.
Although most banks will be closed, you can still perform basic banking transactions by using online banking or going to your bank’s ATM.
