The United States is often regarded as one of the most disliked countries globally, according to an analysis by Insider Monkey. The financial website attributes this reputation to the country’s widespread influence over other nations’ political systems, coupled with its history of military interventions.

Narrowing the research to a state level, and considering the perspective of U.S. residents, Ohio, Texas, and New York rank as the most disliked states. This is largely due to ongoing cultural conflicts and racial tensions.

Insider Monkey’s conclusions are drawn from a variety of calculations and surveys, which highlight multiple factors contributing to this disdain. These include high crime rates, lack of job opportunities, severe income inequality, heavy traffic, and an overall lack of affordability.

When shifting the focus to cities, the factors that fuel discontent shift slightly. City dwellers tend to base their opinions on issues such as housing availability, employment prospects, traffic congestion, population density, and crime rates.

The results of the survey show that Detroit, Michigan, is the most hated city in the United States, particularly due to its high rates of violence and crime. A thriving city in the last century, Detroit has seen a huge decline in productivity, especially since the famous car industry in the region came to a standstill.

In addition to Detroit, Michigan has a second city featured in Insider Monkey’s list of the top 10 most hated cities... and it’s also in the top 2. Below is the complete ranking.

Insider Monkey wrote: “Detroit, Michigan, is the most hated city in the United States. The city has a serious problem with violent crime, and the city’s population is declining. The city also has poor public transit.”

The analysis was based on a variety of calculations and surveys conducted by the financial website. The cities included in the list were ranked due to several contributing factors, such as a lack of job opportunities, crime rates significantly higher than the national average, leading to elevated levels of violence, congested traffic, income inequality, and overall lack of affordability. These combined issues, as may be expected, have clearly created environments that foster resentment and dissatisfaction among residents.
