Total solar eclipses are only visible within a narrow path on the Earth’s surface. This year, such a path will travel over the center of the Pacific Ocean, across Mexico, the United States, and Canada before finishing over the Atlantic. The event is expected to enter the US in Texas and move through Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. A total eclipse will be visible in parts of other states, including Tennessee and Michigan.

Which cities in Ohio will offer the best views of the eclipse?

Cities across the northeast and northwest of the state fall within the path of totality, including Akron, Cleveland, Mansfield, and Toledo. In these cities, residents and those passing through will experience the total eclipse. In Cleveland, the Great Lakes Science Center is hosting the TOTAL ECLIPSE FEST 2024, which began on 6 April. The free event features concerts, science activities for kids, speakers, and other attractions. Tomorrow, the Center is expected to host 30,000 visitors to watch the eclipse.

On Monday, the Center will host an eclipse viewing party and is just one of the many locations around the city hosting viewers. In Akron, public transit will be free on the day of the eclipse.

On X, the city’s transit system said that riders should anticipate delays as traffic will likely exceed normal levels with so many visitors flooding the city and surrounding area for the celestial event.

The total solar eclipse can be seen in Ohio approximately at 3:08 p.m. local time, with totality extending from 3:10 p.m. According to the website Greatamericaneclipse.com, the best areas for viewing will be in the northern half of the state stretching from Defiance to Hamilton and from Toledo to Youngstown.
