The mystery behind the drone sightings over New Jersey solved: “This was not the enemy”

US President Donald Trump ordered an investigation into the strange sightings of unidentified flying objects over New Jersey.

US President Donald Trump has revealed that there was nothing untoward about the mysterious drones spotted over New Jersey in the latter part of last year, and declared that the flying objects were “not the enemy” but a fleet of authorized research and private drones.

Trump canceled a rip to Bedminster last month due to concern over the ongoing sightings of drones, some of them, “the size of small cars” along the Raritan River since mid-November.

Government kept public in suspense over drones, says Trump

Trump said at the time that the Biden administration knew exactly who the drones belonged to and where they were coming from. “For some reason they don’t want to comment,” he told told reporters. “I think they’d be better off saying our Department of Affairs or our President knows and for some reason they want to keep people in suspense. If it’s the enemy, they’d blast out, even if they were late, they’d blast it. Something strange is going on and for some reason they don’t want to tell the people, and they should.”

On Tuesday, in her first press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had been given permission to fly the drones for “research and various other reasons” while other cases involved “hobbyists and private individuals” who owned their own UAVs.

Who was behind New Jersey drones?

“I do have news directly from the President of the United States, that was just shared with me in the Oval Office, from President Trump directly - an update on the New Jersey drones,” Leavitt began. “After research and study, the drones that were flying over New Jersey in large numbers were authorized to be flown by the FAA for research and various other reasons. Many of these drones were also hobbyists, recreational and private individuals that enjoy flying drones and in time, it got worse due to curiosity. This was not the enemy”.

The FAA issued a one-month ban on unmanned aerial vehicles flying over infrastructure points, electrical substations, a nuclear power plant, ports and trucking warehouses across New Jersey, which was effective from 18 December 2024 to 17 January 2025.

Drone sightings were reported in at least five other states: New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Ohio. Last month, two men were arrested in Boston for a “hazardous drone operation” close to Logan Airport.
