The prediction Stephen Hawking made for 2025: “It is a tipping point”
Thirty years ago, the British scientist pointed out that 2025 would be a key year for the future of fields such as astronomy, technology, and robotics.

Stephen Hawking was one of the most brilliant minds of all time. His contributions to scientific debate, as well as his extensive body of work, supported a prestigious career filled with honors and accolades.
He identified the year 2025 as a “turning point” for the development of various fields, including space exploration, technology, and robotics. He discussed this during the BBC program Tomorrow’s World in 1995.
Regarding space exploration, he predicted that it would not be limited to government initiatives, but that private companies and ventures would also become involved. He also warned about the growing problem of space debris, which poses a serious threat to satellites and space missions.
The ubiquity of the Internet and its impact on access to information was among his predictions from 30 years ago. He was right about that as well, at a time when the World Wide Web was far more limited and far less advanced than it is today.
But the Internet wasn’t the only technological focus of his predictions. Artificial Intelligence (AI)—a tool he once described as “revolutionary”—has, in record time, become established across various labor sectors.
Robotics: A “strategic” sector for Hawking
Industry, medicine, and services were the three main areas the British astrophysicist highlighted as key domains for the presence of robotics. In fact, some of these robots are already being integrated today.
In the medical field, in particular, robots have driven significant advances in healthcare—both in surgical operations and in disease diagnostics.
