The private island for sale for $35 million off the coast of Connecticut
A private island in Connecticut has been listed for $35 million. Last on the market in 2018, the property is now completely renovated.
A spectacular private island off the coast of Connecticut has been listed on the real estate market for $35 million, as reported by the renowned U.S. listing website Realtor.com.
According to the website’s description, the island for sale was home to Captain John Jay Phelps, considered one of the first railroad tycoons and financiers. Phelps built the island at the turn of the 20th century, in 1902: now it is listed as a “7.65-acre haven features an exquisite 8, 746-square-foot renovated main residence”.
The island was last listed on the market in 2018. Back then, it sold for $21.5 million. Now, the land has a completely remodelled property, and as such its asking price has increased to $35 million.
As reported by realtor, Jennifer Leahy, the island boasts a 7.6-acre site and is located in the seaside town of Branford, Connecticut. Following the renovation, the 8,746-square-foot island property now boasts a total of ten bedrooms, plus six-and-a-half bathrooms and an oceanfront guest house with an additional four extra bedrooms.
“The kitchen was completed in 2024″, Leahy explains. “It has an oversized island with calacatta marble countertops and top-of-the-line appliances. Almost every bathroom in the house was renovated, including the master bath, which features an oversized shower and sauna (...) It’s an incredible opportunity for a buyer who wants the privacy of being in a remote location but with easy access to New York, Boston, the Hamptons and beyond,” he noted.
In addition to the large number of rooms, the property features other amenities, including a pool, spa and dining room; as well as a bonus cabana, tennis court and putting green for golfing. It also has a wide variety of “spectacular” gardens.
The island is located just 15 minutes from downtown Branford. It can be accessed by sea or land. For more information, visit the real estate website Realtor.com.
