Update:

It’s no secret that Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have been ostracized by the British Royal Family. In a recent interview with BBC, Harry revealed that he is not currently on speaking terms with his father, King Charles.

Over the past five years, Harry and Meghan have steadily distanced themselves from royal life through books, documentaries, and interviews—moves that have only widened the gap between them and the monarchy.

While the couple consistently showed deep respect for Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, both during her life and after her passing, new reporting suggests that tensions may have existed as early as their wedding.

What was Queen Elizabeth’s issue with the dress?

Royal expert Ingrid Seward’s insider knowledge was reported on by the Daily Mail, which claimed that the late Queen Elizabeth confided in a close friend about her disapproval of Meghan’s wedding dress.

The claim, unverified and somewhat peculiar, suggests the Queen thought the dress was “too white.” Comparing a wedding dress to being “too white” is like saying the sun is too bright...it doesn’t quite make sense.

The dress was very similar in color to that worn by the Duchess of Wales.

Why the color might have been a problem

Seward says her information came from Lady Elizabeth Anson, a close confidante of the late Queen. According to Seward, the Queen was unsettled by the color and style of the gown, particularly because Meghan’s marriage to Harry was her second. While such a view may seem outdated, it reflects the conservative and traditional values often associated with the royal family. Traditionally, a white wedding dress symbolizes purity and virginity.

For context, here’s what Queen Consort Camilla wore when she married King Charles, also her second marriage.
