The sinister message posted by Anonymous on X: “identify your nearest border crossing” | What #3E means
Anonymous just told millions to prep for survival and know their nearest border crossing. Is it a warning, a stunt, or something worse?

A chilling message from the Anonymous collective has sent parts of the internet into a frenzy. Posted on X (formerly Twitter), the statement urged followers to prepare for drastic scenarios – having cash outside the banking system, passports ready, and knowing the nearest border crossing. The message concluded with a cryptic hashtag: #3E.
By summer it’ll probably be a good idea to have enough money at hand outside of your bank to survive for an extended period, have your passports or travel docs in order, identify your nearest border crossing, and make arrangements for extended outdoor living situations. #3E

Seen by nearly three million users, the post ignited speculation, confusion, and anxiety. Based on replies, some took it as a warning of imminent collapse. Others dismissed it as fearmongering. But what does #3E actually mean – and should anyone take this seriously?
The meaning behind #3E
On the decentralized platform Bluesky, Anonymous provided an explanation for those puzzled by #3E. According to their posts, the hashtag represents “End impunity. End autogenocide. End oligarchy.”
The idea stems from Heather Marsh’s book Binding Chaos and the 3E Movement, which calls for global accountability against corruption, authoritarianism, and systemic human rights abuses. Marsh argues that governments around the world, regardless of political leaning, are inexorably moving towards fascism because of unchecked impunity – a failure to prosecute those responsible for coups, torture, election interference, and state-backed terrorism.
“Establishing a dictatorship is not anyone’s first crime,” Anonymous wrote in a previous post. “There are always years and decades of impunity for fascism that lead up to a dictatorship.”
Their position is clear: unless criminals in power face consequences, democracy and freedom are illusions.
And the thread continued, highlighting all the ways that those with the power can change society for their own means:
Paranoia or real reason for concern?
While Anonymous has a history of provocative statements, their messages often resonate with people who see global institutions failing to hold the powerful accountable. Recent global events - economic instability, mass protests, authoritarian crackdowns, and financial crises - give weight to the concerns Anonymous raises.
That said, vague apocalyptic warnings are easy to misinterpret. Calls for outdoor survival preparation and cash reserves are the kind of advice often associated with doomsday preppers rather than political activism.
If history is any guide, Anonymous thrives on disruption and cryptic messaging. Some of their past warnings have turned out to be credible. Others faded into obscurity.
The #3E movement itself is less about immediate collapse and more about systemic change - a call to dismantle the impunity that allows corruption to thrive. But the wording of their latest message suggests they believe the world is heading toward a tipping point sooner rather than later.
