On the day Kate Middleton fully resumes her official duties during the Emir of Qatar’s visit to England, a significant decision still looms at home that could create a rift between the Princess of Wales and her husband, Prince William.

Prince George education decision

This decision revolves around the formal education of their eldest son, Prince George. They need to choose a school for him to attend after his current preparatory studies. Currently, the second in line to the throne attends Lambrook, an independent school in Berkshire, alongside his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. This arrangement aligns with the Duchess’s desire for the three children to remain together in the same school.

“That sense of normalcy, keeping the family united during one of the most challenging times they’ve faced, was important. The school provides excellent facilities and a strong support network, allowing the children to enjoy a regular and happy childhood, albeit a privileged one,” explains royal expert Katie Nicholl to the Mirror newspaper.

The Princess of Wales is leaning towards a coeducational institution like Marlborough College in Wiltshire, where she studied from 1996 to 2000 and attended alongside her younger siblings, Pippa and James.

Prince William’s Eton preference

However, Prince William, the heir to the throne, prefers that Prince George’s education follows the path of his father and brother, Prince Harry, by attending a boarding school – ideally Eton, the prestigious institution attended by Lady Diana’s two sons.

It appears that young George is also enthusiastic about the idea of attending Eton. Despite this, his mother does not share the sentiment. “Kate prefers that George attends a coeducational school to stay with his siblings, as she experienced at Marlborough with her sister Pippa and brother James. It was a very happy school life for her. But William has fond memories of Eton, which has a long history with aristocrats and royal family members.”

“There is always the possibility of changing traditions. William and Harry didn’t follow their father’s footsteps by attending Gordonstoun in Scotland, and it’s possible that George might break the mold by not going to Eton. Whatever happens, it will be a decision made by William and Kate with George’s best interests in mind,” concludes the expert.
