“There will be a sport played in orbit in 25 years”: ‘Space-ball’
One scientist has made a bold prediction about the future, with ‘space-ball’ believed to be a possibility.

‘Space-ball’ might sound like a joke (and a very good pun), but for one scientist, it might not be as crazy as it seems.
Charles Liu, professor of physics and astronomy at the College of Staten Island, has made the bold claim that “a sport will be played in orbit within 25 years."
The scientist made the prediction while on the Neil deGrasse Tyson show, ‘StarTalk’, a podcast hosted by the astrophysicist that deals with questions revolving around everything from quantum physics to AI.
Towards the end of the show, the four participating in the podcast - Neil deGrasse Tyson, Charles Liu, comedian Chuck Nice and former Tottenham Hotspur defender Gary O’Reilly - were all asked for their predictions on where the human race will be in 25 years.
‘We are at a global tipping point with democracy, globally’
“We find a desire to fully engage with climate change”, hoped Gary, who explained “because the knock-on effect has influence on so many global societies... If we can bring the desire to challenge that positively, I think that is something that we can all think of as a positive step. I’m not sure we will, but I hope for the desire.”
In a less positive prediction, Nice said that “we are at a global tipping point with respect to democracy, globally; people either want to govern themselves through democratic processes, or we are so asleep that we descend into authoritarianism worldwide. And if we do, getting back is going to take so many generations, none of us will be here to see it.”
And finally, it was Liu’s turn (Tyson had spent the previous 20 minutes explaining his predictions from years ago), who said that there will indeed be a sport played in orbit “within 25 years”.

“‘Satellite shooting’, said O’Reilly, before Chuck’s quick-witted comedy mind sprang into gear: ‘S-baseball!’” he quipped. “When it happens”, Tyson said to Liu, “this [podcast] will be the first thing you do. After that you can do an episode on your own podcast.”
