It’s the holiday season and most people are in a festive mood, looking to get together with friends and family to celebrate the merriest of holidays. There is one annual tradition during this time of year that HR departments may enjoy taking part in but dread what may transpire at it: work Christmas parties.

The events can be an opportunity to hang out with co-workers in a informal setting, but the libations, especially if free flowing, can lead to situations that one may regret once sobered up. Viral threads on Reddit that begin with the question, “What’s the craziest thing that has happened at your work Christmas party?” have solicited numerous responses.

Some involve debauchery and affairs, either new or made public, others just plain cringe worthy. Here’s a look at some of them.

Being a Scrooge prompts hare-brained revenge

Stinginess at Christmas from the boss is not well appreciated, especially if the one before you was very generous. One user with the handle u/MrOarsome shared how the new CEO changed the fully-paid-for event out of the boss’ pocket in to a pay-for-yourself one at a bar across the street from the office for the staff.

To add insult to injury, the CEO and senior execs had a private fancy party the same night. Liquor helped draw up a hare-brained plan and inject liquid courage to carry it out. Some of the inebriated staff decided to break into the CEO’s office and drain his well-stocked liquor cabinet.

Amazingly the plan went off without a hitch and the cabinet was depleted of its contents. However, one final act of defiance, writing an expletive on the boss’ desk using liquid pilfered from the cabinet and processed by the body, was witnessed by the CEO and a small group of execs that had came back to the office for a nightcap.

Needless to say there were some job openings following that Christmas party.

A picture is worth a thousand jaw drops

We’ve all heard stories or seen in the movies people photocopying parts of the anatomy that are usually covered up at Christmas parties. So what could go wrong with a digital photo booth? As you can guess, explains u/JediArchitect “coworkers were going in there and making out, flashing, and doing all sorts of raunchy stuff.”

However, no one had explained to them that the photos were going to be posted on a website for everyone to see. “The site was up for 15 minutes before the plug was abruptly pulled.”

The dangers of hanky-panky in the bathroom

HR Morning in their ‘5 tips to avoid drama, drunks and damage’ at holiday parties says that over a third of employees surveyed by Evite “said they’ve witnessed co-workers hook up at their holiday parties.” User u/SnooLobsters4972 shared one of those.

In this case it was the boss getting ‘busy’ with one of the employees in the bathroom. In the heat of the moment they broke the handicap rail off the wall. Unfortunately, the boss’ wife was at the party and became aware of the latrine tryst.

While composing and cleaning herself up in the bathroom, she decided to pick up the freed rail and proceeded to chase her husband around the sales floor brandishing it. User u/SnooLobsters4972 gave the party “10/10.”
