The ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles are threatening several major landmarks and tourist attractions, putting the city’s rich cultural heritage at risk. Five major fires are ripping through neighbourhoods, with more than 420,000 people without power and hundreds of thousands evacuated.

The iconic Hollywood Sign, a symbol of the entertainment industry, is under threat from a new blaze that ignited overnight in the Hollywood Hills. This fire also endangers the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a popular tourist destination featuring thousands of stars honoring entertainment achievements.

Two of the largest fires have not yet began to be contained, meaning potential dangers continuing until at least the weekend.

The Getty Villa, a Greco-Roman art museum located on the Pacific Coast Highway, has experienced damage to its surrounding vegetation. Fortunately, the collections and staff remain safe. However, both the Getty Villa and Getty Center have temporarily closed as a precaution.

The renowned Griffin Observatory, famous for its stunning views of Los Angeles and its educational exhibits, has also closed due to the fires and severe weather conditions. The observatory is a vital part of LA’s cultural landscape, attracting thousands of visitors each year.

Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens are also closed. Located in Griffith Park, the zoo has closed its doors to the public as a safety measure against the fires.
