These are the Social Security payment dates in October: Monthly schedule for beneficiaries
The Social Security Administration is sending out October payments. Here’s the delivery schedule: amounts, beneficiaries, and double payment dates.

Where did October go? Most Social Security beneficiaries have already received their payment in October.
Each month, the Social Security Administration (SSA) issues millions of payments to recipients—primarily retired workers, but also individuals receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
To keep payments organized, the SSA follows a set schedule, issuing benefits on Wednesdays based on recipients’ birth dates:
- Birthdays from the 1st to the 10th → paid on the second Wednesday of the month.
- Birthdays from the 11th to the 20th → paid on the third Wednesday of the month.
- Birthdays from the 21st to the 31st → paid on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
Let’s be clear: Every year the retirement age is raised is a 7% benefit cut.

Instead of cuts, Social Security can afford to INCREASE benefits if millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share!
Meanwhile, workers who retired before May 1997 and all SSI beneficiaries receive their payments on the first day of the month, regardless of their birthdays. If a payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, benefits are issued on the previous business day. This means some months include a “double payment,” with one deposited at the start of the month and another at the end.
For 2025, the SSA reports that the average monthly benefit for a retired worker is $1,976 for individuals and up to $3,089 for couples filing jointly. SSI recipients can receive up to $967 for individuals and $1,450 for couples.
In mid-October, the SSA will announce the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA), which adjusts benefits for inflation. According to estimates from The Senior Citizens League (TSCL), payments are projected to rise by 2.7% to 2.8% in 2026.
Because of the calendar, SSI beneficiaries will receive a double payment in October: one at the start of the month (for October) and another at the end (for November), since November 1 falls on a weekend.
Here’s the October 2025 payment schedule:
- Wednesday, October 1: Supplemental Security Income Recipients
- Friday, October 3: Recipients who began receiving payments before May 1997
- Wednesday, October 8: Beneficiaries with birthdays between the 1st and 10th
- Wednesday, October 15: Recipients with birthdays between the 11th and 20th
- Wednesday, October 22: Beneficiaries with birthdays between the 21st and 31st
- Friday, October 31: Supplemental Security Income Recipients (November payment)
In the wealthiest nation on earth, 25% of seniors should not be living on $15,000 a year or less.

We need to EXPAND Social Security, not cut it.
