The government gave out stimulus checks at the height of the pandemic to help Americans get through the particular financial difficulties that the situation brought about.

Though pandemic-era stimulus checks are no longer being sent out, some states continue to give financial aid to their residents in the form of income and property tax rebates. In the case of Montana and New Mexico, they are sending out checks because of their budget surplus.

Here are the states which which are distributing tax rebates.

Idaho

State tax officials announced last year that they would be distributing a total of around half a billion dollars this year to 800,000 recipients. The amount ranges from $300 for people who filed their states taxes individually to $600 for family members who filed jointly.

If you haven’t received your rebate yet, you can check the status of your refund at the state government website.

Illinois

The state government said in 2022 that some six million residents would receive income and property tax rebates beginning September last year under the Illinois Family Relief Plan.

There will be separate refunds for income and property tax. People who filed their state income tax individually will receive $50, while couples who filed jointly will get up to $100. Families with dependents can receive a maximum of $300. Those who qualify for a property tax rebate can collect up to $300.

Massachusetts

In Massachusetts, legislators last year announced that approximately three million taxpayers would receive almost three billion in tax rebate dollars. Payment rollout began in October 2022.

There is no online system through which you can check the status of your 62F refund. If you have questions regarding your rebate, you can call the 62F Refund Call Center at 877-677-9727.

Montana

Montana has a surplus of almost $2 billion for fiscal year 2022, and because of this, resident homeowners will be entitled to property tax rebate checks.

Beginning August 15, eligible Montana homeowners may claim their property tax refund up to $675 at getmyrebate.mt.gov. Claims must be filed by October 1, 2023.

New Mexico

New Mexico also has a budget surplus, and the state government has begun distributing economic relief payments to about 26,000 low-income residents last month.

The checks, amounting to $500 or $1,000, were part of a $15 million program to distribute the state’s surplus money, according to the state’s Human Services Department.

The government also sent income tax refunds of $500 or $1,000 to approximately one million residents who filed a return in 2021. State officials say those who haven’t filed their 2021 tax return are given until May 31, 2024 to do so and become eligible to receive the rebate.
