The Social Security Administration (SSA) is preparing to issue a final round of payments, corresponding to the month of June. On a monthly basis, the SSA issues millions of checks to beneficiaries of the Social Security Program who, for the most part, are retired workers, as well as people who belong to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or to Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).

The distribution of the majority of payments is directly related to the date of birth of the recipients. Those who were born between the first and the tenth day of the month receive the money on the second Wednesday of the month. Beneficiaries whose date falls between the 11th and the 20th, do so on the third Wednesday and those from the 21st to the 31st, the fourth Wednesday. People who retired before May 1997 and SSI beneficiaries receive their money the first days of the month regardless of their date of birth.

As for the amounts, the exact amount depends on various factors. In the case of retired workers, the number of years worked, the taxes paid to Social Security during that time, are used in the calculation along with the age at which retirement was requested, to mention a few. However, the SSA has official estimates of the payment amounts.

According to official information from the Administration, the average payment for a retired worker in 2024 is $1,907 for individuals and $3,303 for couples who file their tax return together; while the maximum figure for SSI beneficiaries is $943 for individuals and $1,415 for couples.

Taking into account the amounts and the way in which the Administration distributes the payments, beneficiaries who were born between the 21st and the 31st are the ones who will receive an average Social Security payment of $1,900 dollars next Wednesday, June 26.

It is worth mentioning that this is only an approximate amount. Since the exact amount is linked to age, the maximum benefit for those who retire at age 62 is $2,710, $3,426 at age 65, and $3,652 at age 66. Those who wait until full retirement age are eligible for a payment of up to $3,822, while those who delay retirement until age 70 can currently receive a maximum payment of $4,873.

Social Security payments rise annually thanks to the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), which serves to equalize Administration payments with ongoing inflation. In 2024, the increase in COLA was 3.2%.
