Bad weather also wreaks havoc in the southeast

The new NWS alert comes as the East Coast of the United States battles flooding resulting from high tide and heavy rain yesterday, June 19. This was due to the arrival of Tropical Storm Alberto, which made landfall Thursday morning, June 20, in Tampico, Mexico. The storm caused damage to the coastal area of Texas.

After making landfall in Mexico, Alberto weakened to a tropical depression. The weather phenomenon represented the first tropical storm of the hurricane season. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the United States (NOAA), the hurricane season began on June 1 and is expected to last until November 30.

According to projections, the season could have up to 13 hurricanes, of which seven could be category 3 or higher.

As for storms, an average of between 17 and 25 phenomena with winds above 39 miles per hour (mph) is expected.
