Kroger, the fifth-largest retailer in the United States, is preparing to close dozens of stores across the country as part of a broader strategy, according to spokesperson Erin Rolfes in a statement to USA Today.
A total of 60 stores will be closed in various states nationwide. The closures will take place gradually over the next 18 months, with consumers in the Lone Star State being the first affected.
This well-known supermarket will close 60 stores in the US over the coming months: the first will be in Texas. Although the spokesperson clarified that a full list of closures will not be provided, one of the retailer’s locations in Texas has already been confirmed for closure. The store is located at 1707 W. University Dr. in McKinney, about 50 kilometers from Dallas.
The closure of this location, as well as others scheduled to shut down, is due to low profitability, according to interim CEO Ron Sargent. All affected employees will be offered relocation to nearby stores, if they choose.
