This is the Frecciarossa ETR 1000, the Iryo high-speed train involved in the Spain rail crash
Travelling from Málaga to Madrid on Sunday, an Iryo ETR 1000 suffered a derailment and collided with another train, leading to at least 39 deaths.
The Frecciarossa ETR 1000, the Iryo train involved in this weekend’s high-speed train crash in southern Spain, is described by the private rail operator as “more than a record-setter”.
Developed by the Hitachi-Bombardier consortium (now part of the Alstom Group), the ETR 1000 is “the fastest series‑produced train ever built in Europe”, Iryo says.
The train offers “best‑in‑class acceleration, an exceptionally quiet ride, reduced vibration, and the lowest environmental impact in its category“, the company adds.

At least 39 dead in rail crash
On Sunday, an Iryo ETR 1000 travelling from Málaga to Madrid became derailed before crossing onto an adjacent track and colliding with another train, Spanish railway authority ADIF said in a statement. There were 317 passengers on board the Iryo train.
The other train involved in the accident, an Alvia service run by Renfe, Spain’s state-owned railway company, was carrying 184 passengers from Madrid to Huelva.
The accident, which occurred near the southern Spanish city Córdoba at around 7:45 p.m. local time (1:45 p.m. ET), has led to the deaths of at least 39 people, says Spain’s transport minister, Óscar Puente.
In a statement on the social-media platform X early on Monday, Puente warned that this death toll “is not definitive”.
