ICE employee salaries vary widely, due to the large number of positions within the federal agency.
Part of the Trump administration’s immigration policy has focused on the detention and deportation of immigrants. As a result, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has offered competitive pay to help expand its workforce.
ICE has been one of the agencies that has benefited most under President Trump’s administration. Thanks to the legislation known as the One Big Beautiful Bill, ICE received a major budget increase and has not been affected by the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) funding shortfall.
DHS funding officially expired at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, leaving thousands of federal employees across multiple agencies without pay. However, ICE agents are still able to continue their operations.
What ICE agents do
According to the agency’s official website, employees of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “protect America from the cross-border crime and illegal immigration that threaten national security and public safety.”
ICE focuses on enforcing immigration laws, preventing terrorism, and combating transnational criminal threats, according to the agency.
This is the salary of an ICE agent
ICE employee salaries vary significantly because the agency includes different positions, programs, and units, including deportation officers, detention officers, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents, and Immigration Enforcement Agents (IEA).
Like most federal agencies, ICE uses the federal General Schedule (GS) pay scale, with salaries ranging from $22,584 to $164,301 per year. These pay rates took effect in January of this year.
In monthly terms, that works out to approximately $1,882 to $13,692 per month, before taxes and deductions.
In addition to salary, ICE offers a range of benefits, including health, dental, vision, life, and long-term care insurance; a retirement plan; a retirement savings plan similar to a 401(k); a flexible spending account; an employee assistance program; sick leave; and paid federal holidays.
Other benefits may also include flexible work schedules, remote work options, tuition reimbursement, commuter benefits, wellness programs, and access to fitness centers.
