This major airline is canceling its flights to Miami: Here’s what you can do if your trip is affected

JetBlue customers who travel to and from Miami International Airport (MIA) will have to make different arrangements starting September.

The discount carrier announced this week that it is ceasing operations at Miami International Airport, with the last flight due to fly out of MIA on September 3.

The airline cites economic uncertainty and low performance figures on the Boston-Miami route - it’s only remaining service at MIA, which has become unprofitable, as the reasons behind the shake-up.

“We continually evaluate how our network is performing and make changes as needed,” company spokesperson Derek Dombrowski said. “To free aircraft for new routes, we’ve recently made the decision to end a small number of unprofitable flights including between Boston and Miami.”

JetBlue has operated between one and two daily flights to Boston’s Logan International Airport since 2021. Up until fairly recently, the carrier was operating around 14 routes from MIA, including flights to New York City, Newark, New Jersey, and Hartford, Connecticut. But the company has been scaling back and plans more restructuring of its services over the next couple of years.

Travelers with JetBlue flights booked for Miami

Passengers who have already booked flights to Miami have two options open to them - they can switch their journey to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), which is located 25 miles north of Miami, or get a full refund.

From September, JetBlue travelers will still be able to fly to South Florida, as the airline maintains hubs at Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach International Airport (PBI).
