Thousands of Americans may receive checks of up to $6,000: All it takes is this letter in the mailbox and the deadline to claims is now

An insurance brokerage has reached a $21million settlement for an alleged data breach said to have compromised private information of employees and clients.

$6,000 in compensation coming to victims of data breach

Have you received a data breach notification letter from Arthur J. Gallagher & Co or Gallagher Bassett Services Inc.? If you have, then you may have up to $6,000 coming your way from the insurance brokerage headquartered in Rolling Meadows, Illinois reports Top Class Actions.

The compensation is part of a $21 million settlement the risk management service provider reached to resolve a lawsuit, although the company has not admitted any wrongdoing. Arthur J. Gallagher & Co is accused of failing to prevent cyber attack that allegedly compromised the personal data of employees and clients between June 3, 2020 and September 26, 2020.

The personal information that was claimed to have been compromised includes driver’s license numbers, financial information and medical data as well as Social Security numbers. Here’s a look at who can receive compensation, how much and how to claim.

Who is eligible for data breach compensation?

Individuals whose information may have been impacted by a 2020 data breach should’ve received a letter Arthur J. Gallagher & Co or Gallagher Bassett Services Inc. to inform them. The deadline for exclusion and objection to the lawsuit has expired.

Class members must submit a valid claim form by February 10, 2025, in order to receive settlement benefits. The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for February 27, 2025.

What compensation will individuals impacted by the data breach receive?

Those who have documented data breach losses can receive up to $6,000 under the terms of the settlement. This includes reimbursement for documented credit expenses, identity theft, fraud not yet reimbursed, professional fees and other losses. These people must provide proof in the form of receipts, bank statements, etc. in order to recoup any potential losses.

Even those who have not yet experienced financial losses from the alleged data breach can still benefit. They can claim three years of financial account monitoring services. Additionally, those impacted will receive a pro rata settlement payments.

Note however, that “if you are not qualified for a settlement do NOT file a claim,” warns Top Class Actions. Not only would you be committing perjury but you would also be harming other eligible members of the class action by submitting a fraudulent claim.
