As the Democratic National Convention dominates headlines in Chicago, the thought of debates between the confirmed candidates is already gaining interest. As well as the Oval Office chasers Kamala Harris and Donald Trump going head-to-head, we will also get to see the second names on the respective tickets, Tim Walz and J. D. Vance, who have both agreed to participate, accepting the recent invitation from CBS.

“The American people deserve as many debates as possible, which is why President Trump has already challenged Kamala to three of them,” Vance shared on social media. “Not only am I accepting the CBS debate on October 1st, but also the CNN debate on September 18th. I look forward to seeing you at both!”

When is the Tim Walz vs JD Vance debate?

The first of the vice presidential debates will take place on October 1 at the CBS studio in New York City. The time has not yet been confirmed. CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell and Face the Nation anchor and CBS News chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan will moderate the event.

Presidential candidates Harris and Trump have already pledged to participate in a September 10 debate hosted by ABC.

Will there be a second vice presidential debate?

CNN has confirmed it has invited both vice presidential candidates to a second debate in September. Vance has said he has accepted, but Walz’s participation is in doubt. Michael Tyler, communications director for Harris-Walz 2024, said in a statement that Trump’s campaign had accepted his proposal of three debates, two presidential and one vice presidential.

“Assuming Donald Trump shows up on September 10th to debate Vice President Harris, then Governor Walz will see JD Vance on October 1st and the American people will have another opportunity to see the Vice President [Harris] and Donald Trump on the debate stage in October,” he said.

Voters deserve to see the candidates for the highest office in the land share their competing visions for our future. The more they play games, the more insecure and unserious Trump and Vance will appear to the American people. Those games end now,” he continued.

As for the Harris-Walz campaign only endorsing one vice presidential debate, Vance responded: “Seriously, if you want to be vice president of the United States, you need to make your case directly to the American people. A debate is an opportunity to make your case to voters without a teleprompter or a script. I can’t imagine why anyone would say no.”
